Summary
Colorado Medicaid (Health First Colorado) released multiple billing updates effective January 1, 2023, including new provider ID requirements for PHI discussions, 2023 HCPCS codes temporarily suspending with EOB 0000, and various specialty-specific changes. Most significantly, providers must now provide both NPI and Health First Colorado Provider ID when contacting Provider Services about protected health information.
Action Required
Immediately: Ensure billing companies and staff have both NPI and Health First Colorado Provider ID for each location when contacting Provider Services about PHI. Update contact procedures and verify billing companies have all required IDs. For DME providers: Use procedure code E0604 with modifier RR for multi-user breast pump billing. Monitor claims with 2023 HCPCS codes as they may suspend with EOB 0000 until system updates are complete.
