Summary
Colorado Medicaid (Health First Colorado) issued multiple policy updates including new Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) requirements starting August 3, 2020, separation of mother/newborn hospital claims effective July 1, 2020, and changes to billing manual formats. Most significantly, EVV will be required for home and community-based services with claims denied starting January 1, 2021 without proper EVV records.
Action Required
By August 3, 2020: Providers of home and community-based services must implement Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) system to collect six data points for each visit. By January 1, 2021: All claims requiring EVV will be subject to pre-payment review and denied without corresponding EVV records. Hospital billing teams must separate mother delivery and newborn birth claims for services with dates July 1, 2020 and later. Update provider licenses in Provider Web Portal before expiration.
