Summary
New Mexico Medicaid now requires appropriate taxonomy codes for all billing, rendering, and attending providers on claims as of March 23, 2026. Claims missing proper taxonomy codes will be rejected or denied, and providers must use codes that match their registration in the New Mexico Medicaid system per the HCA Provider Matrix.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must verify all New Mexico Medicaid claims include appropriate taxonomy codes for billing, rendering, and attending providers in the specified fields (electronic: PRV03 segments; paper: CMS-1500 fields 33b and 24I with BI/PE qualifiers, UB04 fields 81 and 76 with BI/AT qualifiers). Cross-reference taxonomy codes against the HCA Provider Matrix to ensure codes match provider registration in New Mexico Medicaid system.
