Summary
Anthem Blue Cross (California) has temporarily suspended the requirement to report gestational age on maternity claims. Providers should continue submitting maternity claims as normal without gestational age information; claims will not be denied or pended for missing gestational age during this suspension period. Previously submitted claims without gestational age are being reprocessed.
Action Required
Effective immediately (July 30, 2026): Billing team should remove or make optional any gestational age validation requirements in billing software for Anthem Blue Cross California commercial maternity claims. Update internal billing procedures and provider submission guidelines to reflect that gestational age is no longer required. Monitor for future reinstatement notification from Anthem. No action needed for claims already submitted; reprocessing of prior claims is handled by the payer. Ensure all staff are aware that missing gestational age will not result in claim rejection during this suspension period.
