Summary

Anthem MyCare Ohio has updated its electronic remittance advice (ERA) format for dual-eligible members to clearly distinguish between Medicare and Medicaid claim adjustments. Effective September 14, 2026, ERAs will now include a 'P' (Primary/Medicare) or 'S' (Secondary/Medicaid) designation after the Patient Account Number to help billing teams match forward balance adjustments to the correct claim. This change simplifies reconciliation of claims that are later reversed.

Action Required

Before Sep 14, 2026
By September 14, 2026: Billing team must update ERA reconciliation and accounts receivable processes to recognize and process the new 'P' and 'S' designations in the Patient Account Number field on Anthem MyCare Ohio remittances. Train billing staff to correctly identify which claim (Medicare vs. Medicaid) is being adjusted based on the designation. Update any automated ERA posting rules or matching logic in the billing system to accommodate the new format. Test ERA processing with sample remittances containing both 'P' and 'S' designations before the effective date to ensure accurate claim matching and forward balance posting.
