Summary
Effective January 1, 2027, Ambetter of Tennessee will discontinue coverage for 46 HCPCS H codes (primarily behavioral health and social services codes) while adding coverage for H0006. The billing team must identify all claims currently using the non-covered codes and transition to alternative billing codes or obtain clarification on approved alternatives before the effective date.
Action Required
By December 31, 2026: Billing team must complete the following: (1) Audit all current encounter templates, superbills, and billing software to identify which of the 46 discontinued H codes are actively used; (2) Contact Ambetter of Tennessee Provider Relations to request approved alternative billing codes or clinical scenarios for each discontinued code; (3) Update billing system configuration to block claims submission using the 46 non-covered codes and implement edit rules to prevent submission; (4) For H0006, ensure billing system is configured to allow and process this code starting 01/01/2027; (5) Retrain all billing staff and providers on the code changes; (6) Test billing workflow with updated codes before January 1, 2027. Failure to update will result in automatic claim denials for any services billed with the 46 discontinued codes after the effective date, creating revenue loss and increased accounts receivable.
