Summary

IHCP (Indiana Medicaid) clarifies that certain licensed behavioral health professionals (LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, LCAC) can now bill directly using their own NPI instead of billing under supervising practitioners, and can provide supervision of treatment plans. These providers are reimbursed at 75% of the fee schedule while physicians and HSPPs remain at 100%.

Action Required

Action needed
Immediately: Billing team must update provider enrollment and billing procedures for Indiana Medicaid behavioral health claims. Enroll eligible LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, and LCAC providers with their own NPIs (type 11, specialties 618-621). Update billing system to allow direct billing for these specialties at 75% reimbursement rate. Use HE modifier when non-enrolled practitioners render services under supervision. Verify outpatient mental health clinics no longer require HSPP/physician links if they have qualifying behavioral health providers.
