Summary
Indiana Health Coverage Programs (IHCP) has expanded the list of providers who can submit prior authorization requests to include nurse practitioners, physician assistants, clinical social workers, and several mental health counselors. This change is effective immediately for services provided on or after July 1, 2021.
Action Required
Immediately: Update prior authorization submission workflows to allow nurse practitioners, physician assistants, LCSWs, LMFTs, LMHCs, and LCACs to submit PA requests within their scope of practice. Train billing staff on expanded provider eligibility. Verify these providers can access PA submission systems and have appropriate credentials on file.
