Summary
Indiana Medicaid updated E/M office visit codes (99202-99215) effective January 1, 2021, allowing providers to code based on time OR medical decision-making instead of traditional history/exam requirements. Code 99201 was deleted, time thresholds changed, and new prolonged service codes G2212 and 99417 are now covered with updated reimbursement rates effective April 23, 2021.
Action Required
Immediately: Update billing system to reflect deleted code 99201 and revised time thresholds for codes 99202-99215. Train providers on new MDM matrix and time-based coding options. Add prolonged service codes G2212 and 99417 to billing system with equal reimbursement rates. Review claims from January 1, 2021 forward as IHCP will mass adjust these retroactively starting April 23, 2021. Podiatrists and chiropractors cannot bill codes 99204, 99205, 99214, or 99215.
