Summary

Effective June 30, 2020, IHCP (Indiana Medicaid) removed the requirement for a licensed addiction counselor (LAC) or licensed clinical addiction counselor (LCAC) to be a direct service provider when billing for intensive outpatient treatment (IOT) for members with substance use disorder diagnosis. All other IOT billing requirements remain unchanged.

Action Required

Action needed
Billing team should review current IOT billing practices for SUD patients to ensure compliance with revised provider requirements. Update any internal billing guidelines or staff training materials that referenced the previous LAC/LCAC direct service provider requirement for IOT services. Verify that billing systems are not enforcing the outdated provider requirement that could delay claims processing.
