Summary
Indiana Medicaid (IHCP) is ending temporary COVID-19 relaxed pharmacy rules and returning to pre-pandemic requirements. Starting June 1, 2020, prior authorization will again be required for early refills of noncontrolled substances under both fee-for-service and managed care plans.
Action Required
Effective June 1, 2020: Billing team must ensure prior authorization is obtained before processing early refill requests for noncontrolled substances for Indiana Medicaid patients. Update pharmacy billing workflows to require PA verification. Claims for early refills without proper authorization will be denied.
