Summary
IHCP (Indiana Medicaid) has implemented temporary COVID-19 emergency changes allowing enrolled providers to bill through any enrolled group location or service location without requiring formal linkages, and allows medical students/residents authorized under Governor's executive order to bill under supervising practitioner's NPI. These flexibilities are effective through the duration of the public health emergency but claims may be denied if reprocessed after emergency ends.
Action Required
Immediately for Indiana Medicaid providers: Update billing workflows to allow rendering providers to bill through any enrolled group location without formal linkages. Ensure place of service (POS) codes match the service location being billed. For services at non-enrolled locations, maintain detailed documentation in provider records. When billing for medical students/residents under supervising practitioner NPIs, clearly document in records that services were performed by student/resident. Note that claims may require rebilling after emergency declaration ends.
