Summary
Effective July 1, 2026, BCBSWY will deny claims for large gastrointestinal pathogen panels and multiplex respiratory panels testing for five or more pathogens as non-covered services. New limits also restrict repeat GI pathogen panel testing within seven days for the same diarrheal episode.
Action Required
Before July 1, 2026: Billing team must update system to automatically deny or flag claims for large GI pathogen panels (codes like 85707) and multiplex respiratory panels (87632, 87633, 0115U, 0202U, 0223U, 0225U, 0373U, 0563U, 0564U) as non-covered. Implement edit to prevent repeat billing of GI pathogen panel codes (87505, 87506, 87507, 0369U) within 7 days for same patient/episode. Update encounter forms and notify providers that these panels will be denied regardless of clinical scenario.
