Summary
BCBSWY will now reimburse telemedicine visits for physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy effective December 1, 2020. Additionally, contraceptive pills (HCPCS S4993) will no longer be reimbursed on medical claims and must be billed as pharmacy benefits only.
Action Required
Immediately: Stop billing HCPCS S4993 (Contraceptive Pills for Birth Control) on medical claims. This code must only be billed as a pharmacy benefit. Update billing system rules to prevent medical claim submissions for this code. Billing team should also update telemedicine billing procedures to include PT, OT, and speech therapy visits. Claims for S4993 on medical forms will be denied as billed in error.
